Korean Side Dishes

Our tour guide said that every Korean meal includes anywhere from 2 to 12 side dishes (banchan). The most important and well-known is kimchi, of which there are 100+ varieties. Pretty interesting!
Anyhow, here are some Korean side dishes served to us during our visit to South Korea. The only side dish I like is Kimchi. I actually bought a jar of kimchi when we were there. And now it's all gone. I might need to look around in the grocery store to see if they sell kimchi.
The dried seaweed (black color)called “GimJaban” has very similar taste with the seaweed that is used for kimbap or sushi.

Wikipedia says, Kimchi (orange color), also spelled gimchi or kimchee, is a traditional Korean fermented dish made of vegetables with varied seasonings, most commonly referring to the spicy baechu variety. Kimchi is the most common banchan, or side dish in Korea. Kimchi is also a common ingredient and combined with other ingredients to make dishes such as kimchi stew (kimchi jjigae) and kimchi fried rice (kimchi bokkeumbap).

The Korean bean sprout side-dish (white), KongNaMul MuChim, is a very common and popular side-dish. It is a non-spicy side-dish, but you can add some hot pepper powder to give a little kick if you like spicy food.

The green color side dish is called steam seaweed.

Oh, my & hubby's favorite kimchi! I used to make my own kimchi but now I can't find that red powder to ferment it. My Korean student used to give me a lot of it every time he got back from Korea. I also like that sprouted mung beans and the fresh and dried seaweeds. Our Korean friends introduced them to us.
Thanks for the visit, Dhemz:)
