Make a Small Bath Look Larger

It's true that a small bathroom can feel cozy and intimate. But it can also feel claustrophobic and depressing. Unless you live in a custom-built home with a luxurious bath and dressing room, you probably wish your bathroom were larger. Without adding any more square footage, you might feel less cramped if you use some tips to make your small bathroom look and feel larger.

• The first thing you need to focus on is the walls and ceiling of your washroom. The key is to select a lighter shade to paint your walls. Also, have your ceiling painted white. If you are using wallpaper for your walls, make sure they are not patterned with very dark colors. The best ones will be having a white base with small light colored pattern.

• The next area is the flooring. Again opt for lighter shades for tiles to make the bathroom look spacious. It is better to use medium sized six to eight inch ceramic tiles, not larger than that. Smaller tiles will make your washroom look even smaller and so would very larger tiles. If you do not wish to change your dark colored tiles, use a light colored rug to cover most of the area.

• On the walls you may wish to use full length mirrors that give you a spacious look as soon as you step in. Mirrors will also enhance the lighting of your washroom, providing reflections that make the washroom extra ordinarily large. Instead of looking like the walls are closing in on you, mirrors will make the washroom appear to be larger and having enough space.

• Lighting also holds a significant position in making your bathroom look roomy. Use wall scones, mirror lighting, energy efficient bulbs or whatever is most appropriate for you. CFL light bulbs are the best choice for this purpose as they provide light that is bright enough to make your washroom look spacious. Allow natural daylight to come as well in daylight hours. Remove curtains from the windows for this purpose.

• Fixtures are the most important thing you should consider. For the tub, the area occupied must not be more than sixty by thirty two inches. Use a lower walled bath tub so that it acquires lesser space. As for the sink, use the pedestal kind. Omit the cabinets under it. Also omit other extra cabinets all around your washroom. Use glass shelves to substitute the cabinets. Also get rid of extra toiletries lying on the floor. Build up a cabinet to put towels and other stuff inside it.

• Instead of a usual door that opens sideways, use a sliding door. This will minimize the space occupied when the door is opened. You do not have to use really expensive material to get it done. Instead of a wooden door, use some other light material that makes the opening and closing of the door easier for each member of the family.

Thanks for the post. God bless you all always.
