Pork Tamales

Have you ever had tamales before? Tamale is a traditional Mexican dish with beans or shredded meat inside a cornmeal rolled shell. My FIL brought some pork tamales when he came over and had brunch with us. Oh, boy! It was delicious. He told us that he ordered these tamales from his friend at church.
According to wikipedia, A tamale or tamal (Spanish tamal, from Classical Nahuatl tamalli) is a traditional Latin American dish made of masa (a starchy dough, often corn-based), which is steamed or boiled in a leaf wrapper. The wrapping is discarded before eating. Tamales can be further filled with meats, cheese, vegetables, chilies or any preparation according to taste, and both the filling and the cooking liquid may be seasoned.

I tasted that corn-based Mexican tamale when we were in Phoenix many years ago. We also have tamales here, usually coming from Pampanga, but it's gelatinous rice-based with meat inside wrapped in banana leaf. Yum!!
