My Favorite Teen Drama: The Wonder Years

Thanks for the guest post by Bradly Watkins

Kevin Arnold, Paul Pfeiffer, and Winnie Cooper were the three main characters in the Wonder Years. Created in 1988, and set in 1968 the series follows the day to day life of Kevin Arnold from eight grade until the end of high school. One of the main story arches is Kevin and Winnie's on again and off again relationship. After Winnie's brother is killed in Vietnam in 1968, the pair sneak into the woods, where after a few moments the two end up kissing. Things take a turn for the worse for Kevin as Winnie begins dating another popular 8th grade student, while Kevin eventually ends up dating Becky Slater. Two years later, soon after Valentine's Day Kevin and Winnie end up dating.
More trouble strikes Kevin when Winnie and her family move four miles away to a new neighborhood, resulting in Winnie and Kevin attending separate schools. This does not cause trouble for the couple as they stay together, until Winnie meets a new guy at her school. The series follows the relationship between the two, as well as the adventures Kevin and his friends partake in. The series ultimately ends with Winnie moving to France to attend art school, and when she returns eight years later, Kevin is waiting for her at the airport with his wife and daughter.
To me the Wonder Years was one of the best shows portraying high school life. Kevin Arnold is a relatable character you can't help but root for, and cringe when he does not find success. The Wonder Years can be found on certain stations on satellite TV through www.bestchoicetv.com.
