People should also make sure that they list the amount of calories in all of the food that they eat. If a person wants to lose weight, he will have to reduce his caloric intake. The average person consumes around 2000 calories per day. Men should reduce their caloric intake to 1750 calories and women should reduce their caloric intake to 1500 calories.

3. Choose A Diet Plan That Fits You
Just because a person is dieting does not mean that he has to give up all of the foods that he likes. He can still eat three nutritious meals per day with a snack or two. One of the most important things that people can do is start their day with a high-protein breakfast. Breakfast helps rev up a person’s metabolism so that he burns more calories throughout the day. People should also make sure that they find healthy snacks that they enjoy eating. Yogurt is an excellent snack because it is filling and has many of the vitamins and minerals that the body needs. Bananas, carrots, peaches and celery are other delicious snacks.

4. Stop Buying And Consuming Junk Food
This might seem like a given, but it is one of the keys to eating a nutritionally-sound diet. The consumption of cookies, frozen yogurt, ice cream and fast food should be avoided as much as possible. Those type of foods are high in calories, sugar and saturated fat, but low in the nutritional content.

5. Exercise Portion Control
Self control is an aspect that permeates every part of life and that includes a person’s eating habits. Experts advise against watching television while eating because it makes it harder for a person to control his portion sizes. It is also important to note that eating healthy foods in abundance can also contribute to weight gain.

6. Keep Some Low-Calorie Snacks
Everyone gets a craving for junk food every now and then. That is why people should make sure that they have a few healthy, low-calorie snacks at hand so that they curb those cravings. Healthy choice microwave popcorn, gogurts and cliff bars are examples of low-calorie, delicious snacks.

7. Start Walking On A Regular Basis
Exercise is just as important as eating healthy. Walking is one of the simplest exercises because it can be done anywhere and almost everyone can do it. Those who are not accustomed to walking should start by doing 15 minutes and then gradually build up the time. It will be easier to stick to a walking program if one does it with a spouse, friend or coworker.

8. It Is Okay To Give Into Your Vice
If a person has made a commitment to be healthy, it is perfectly okay for him to indulge every now and then. Again, dieting does not mean that one has to deprive himself of all the foods that he loves. It is okay to have a glass of wine or a bowl of ice cream every now and then. The key to dieting is moderation, not deprivation.
